Wgtn City Council facing parking ticket allegations

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Wellington News | Monday August 27 2012 10:27

The Wellington City Council is confident it won't be facing a barrage of legal action over its parking tickets.

The council's been hit by allegations that 120,000 of its parking tickets could be challenged because they detail an out of date law.

The tickets quote the Transport Act of 1962, despite that act being replaced last year.

Council spokesman Richard McLean says while some motorists are now challenging the legality of their fines, it appears the infringement notices will stand.

"Our legal advice is that we shouldn't break a sweat on this issue basically."
