Prospect of future Avatar filming excites mayor

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Wellington News | Thursday July 26 2012 16:36

News that further Avatar films may be made in Wellington has been welcomed in the capital.

Hollywood director James Cameron says the films sequels will almost certainly be shot at Sir Peter Jackson's Miramar studios.

Acting Mayor Ian McKinnon says that's excellent for the city and further consolidates it's place as New Zealand's film capital.

"In Wellington we have the world class skills and the infrastructure that is required in the film industry. Obviously James Cameron is well aware of that and the fact that he's considering it for Wellington reinforces exactly that point."

Mr McKinnon says there will also be strong economic spin-offs if the films are made in Wellington.
