Mini tornado strikes West Coast town

By: Laura Heathcote | Upper South Island News | Monday October 22 2012 14:43

A mini tornado has wreaked havoc in the small West Coast settlement of Hector.

Residents are today cleaning up after it tore through last night, cutting power and lifting roofs.

Resident Paul Corrie says it's just devastation.

"We had part of a guy's roof in our drive, it hit my vehicle I've got a smashed windscreen and big scrape on the bonnet. The old picture theatre down on Main Road, it's demolished to the ground."

Mr Corrie says the sound of the tornado was terrifying.
