One dead one injured in Manfeild race accident

By: Sam Thompson | Upper South Island News | Saturday May 5 2012 18:04

The motorcycle rider who died in an incident today on the Manfeild race track at Feilding was a member of the club running the event he was competing in.

The Victoria Motorcycle Club of Wellington says the 45-year-old man was taking part in its Winter Series meet when the collision involving two bikes occurred during the last lap of a race around 12.30 this afternoon.

The other rider, a 53-year-old man, was taken to Palmerston North hospital with serious leg injuries.

Police will release the name of the dead rider tomorrow.

His family was watching the event in which he was killed.

A kaumatua will bless the race track before the two-day meet resumes tomorrow.
