Nelson residents are being asked to clear stormwater drains, ahead of a bout of heavy rain this weekend.
MetService says a front is expected to lie slow moving over Westland late on Friday and Saturday, before moving northwards over Nelson on Sunday morning.
Nelson City Council says if drains are blocked, rain water can quickly build up, adding to the risk of flood damage.
It says it can't check every stormwater drain in the city, and the role of residents in keeping drains near their properties clear is a great help in minimising surface flooding.
