Young men rescued from flooded ute

| Upper South Island News | Wednesday August 1 2012 23:15

Two young men have been rescued from their flooded four wheel drive in Blenheim.

Emergency services were called to Hammerichs Road just after 5.30 this evening.

Two young men were trapped in their four wheel drive ute by deep water.

Blenheim Volunteer Fire Brigade Deputy chief fire officer Dion Partridge says a safety line was tied around a fire fighter, who walked out to the vehicle.

"Tied the rope to the vehicle and we got them out of the vehicle and they held onto the rope with the fireman behind them until they got to safe and dry ground"

Dion Partridge says it looked like the men had driven around the road closure signs.
