A severe weather warning has prompted the Nelson City Council to ask residents to clear leaves and other rubbish from any stormwater grills near their property. MetService says rain is expected this afternoon and will become heavier tonight with up to 125 mm possible, which could cause slips and surface flooding. Manager Capital Projects Phil Hamblin says if sumps are blocked, rain water can quickly build up, adding to the risk of flood damage. He says while Council staff and contractors will be out checking infrastructure they can't get to every storm water drain in the city. Photo: NZ Herald |
