West Coast police are no longer searching for a missing man in a lake but are instead following other leads as to his whereabouts.
The police dive squad this afternoon completed a search of the lagoon at Cobden near Greymouth where a man was thought to have got stuck in mud then disappeared.
The man left his car on foot following a short police pursuit after he failed to stop his vehicle for a patrol car for driving erratically.
The man was last seen in a lake by police, indicating he was stuck in mud.
However searches failed to find anything.
West Coast Area Commander Inspector John Canning says he was now completely satisfied the man who fled police yesterday was not still in the water.
He says police were following strong lines of inquiry as to the man's whereabouts.
