Man flown to hospital with burns to face

By: Sophia Duckor-Jones | Upper North Island News | Sunday June 17 2012 16:33

A Turangi man has been flown to Waikato Hospital after suffering burns to his face and body after a fire at his Turangi home.

The man was asleep when his home became engulfed in flames early this morning.

The 65-year-old was woken by another person in the house, and the two of them then helped another occupant escape the fire from the Te Hei Place property.

A hospital spokesperson says the man is in a serious condition and is undergoing surgery today.

Fire investigators were at the scene this morning and are working to determine the cause of the fire.
