Mayor will lead march to save railway line

By: Sophie Lowery | Upper North Island News | Wednesday April 11 2012 14:32

Gisborne's Mayor will lead a march through the city on Saturday to highlight the need to save its railway line.

The future of the line remains uncertain as KiwiRail and the Government continue to assess the damage from recent wash-outs.

Mayor Meng Foon will lead the march down Grey St to the Railway Station at 11am.

The march will be followed by speeches.

Tairawhiti Environment Centre says locals need to send a strong message to government that the line is an essential link out of the region.
