Post mortem today for bodies found in cave

By: Aroha Tahau | Upper North Island News | Monday October 15 2012 4:59

More details on the deaths of two men in a disused Coromandel mine shaft are expected to be released this afternoon.

The men's bodies were found in an underground mine off a gravel road between Whitianga and Coromandel.

Yesterday, forensic investigators wearing protective clothing emerged from the bush, carrying equipment including an LPG bottle, a funnel, a fan and a large bottle of caustic soda.

Two people living nearby believe the men were making methamphetamine.

Other neighbours were told the men were killed in a P lab explosion but police aren't confirming a drug link.

Whitianga police will be holding a news conference this afternoon.
