Hawke's Bay wine growers look to protect local brands

By: Newstalk ZB Staff | Upper North Island News | Monday October 8 2012 16:39

Hawkeâ s Bay Winegrowers could be moving to protect local labels from copycat overseas growers.

They are proposing geographical indications that would legally protect house hold names from imitation.

Hawkeâ s Bay Winegrowers executive officer Lyn Bevin says legal redress could serve as a deterrent and grow the region's reputation.

Mrs Bevin says counterfeit is already a problem in overseas markets, particularly in China.
