One dead, several injured in SH1 crash

There's been a fatal road smash in Northland.

Police say a man died when a southbound van collided with a vehicle going north on State Highway One at the Brynderwyns.

Other passengers in both vehicles have suffered moderate injuries and are being taken to Whangarei Hospital.

Diversions are in place at Waipu and Maungaturoto and drivers are being urged to take extra care.
