Investigation underway into Tongariro Eruption

By: Newstalk ZB Staff | Upper North Island News | Thursday August 30 2012 16:59

An investigation is underway into why it took more than an hour for Taupo Civil Defence officials to be notified about the eruption of Mount Tongariro.

Tongariro erupted just before midnight on the August 7, but Taupo emergency manager Phil Parker wasn't notified until 1.30am.

Mr Parker says plans are now in place to make sure he will be notified about any future natural disasters immediately.

He is hoping the investigation should be wrapped up next week, and he will have an answer shortly after.
