Search continues for missing 23-year-old

By: Sophia Duckor-Jones | Upper North Island News | Tuesday August 21 2012 14:04

A man last seen struggling in the Waikato River last Wednesday is thought to be a missing 23-year-old.

Detective Karl Little says police were contacted over the weekend by a family concerned about the whereabouts of their 23-year-old son.

A female jogger alerted police when she noticed the man struggling in the water beneath Fairfield bridge around 8pm.

An initial search on Wednesday recovered a jacket, which the family say is similar to one their son had brought recently.

A search boat carrying police search and rescue staff have been searching along the riverbanks between Fairfield bridge and Ngaruawahia.
