By: Natasha Burling | Upper North Island News | Monday September 17 2012 7:56

A house in a township near Gisborne has been destroyed by fire overnight.

Fire fighters were called to a single storey house in Ioapa Road, in Te Karaka just after 9pm.

It was well alight when crews arrived.

A 50-year-old man was taken to Gisborne Hospital in a moderate condition with smoke inhalation.

Gisborne fire station senior officer Peter Carroll says Fire Safety is investigating.
