The Navy and Department of Conservation have teamed up to carry out a successful mission in sub-antarctic waters. HMNZS Otago spent 11 days assisting DOC staff with transport between Campbell, Auckland and Snares Islands as they work to protect maritime interests. Commanding Officer Lieutenant Commander Robert McCaw says the ship and crew enjoyed the opportunity to see new regions and help DOC with work. He says the ships' crews provided enthusiastic manpower for track and hut maintenance and used the ship to help carry out marine fauna surveys. Otago will continue assisting in the sub-antarctic region for another week come Monday. Photo: stock.xchng |
