Pilot died of cardiac event - coroner

By: James Williams | Upper North Island News | Wednesday September 26 2012 10:18

The coroner has concluded that a cardiac event led to the death of a Tauranga pilot who crashed in September 2010.

Jeffery Bryant died while doing touch and go landings at Tauranga Airport.

He was flying solo at the time but was under instruction.

Mr Bryant had already carried out the routine successfully but on a second attempt when climbing the plane went through a number of steep left descending turns before crashing to ground.

Coroner Tim Scott says it's unlikely a freak event caused the crash and he's ruled out suicide.

He says a cardiologist found there was some evidence of a cardiac cause.
