Arrest made in Hamilton bar fight

| Upper North Island News | Sunday April 15 2012 16:19

Police in Hamilton have made an arrest after a confrontation in an inner city bar early this morning.

Detective Sergeant Ricky Thompson says the man suffered a serious neck wound at the bar in Hood Street around 1:30am.

He says the altercation happened on the dance floor and a glass was thrown which shattered on impact, cutting into the neck of a 26-year-old man.

He received several stitches to the wound at Waikato Hospital.

Detective Sergeant Thompson says police have received co-operation from bar management and staff and have viewed CCTV footage of the event.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will appear in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow.
