Far North search underway for missing boat

| Upper North Island News | Monday February 11 2013 10:59

A search and rescue operation is underway in the Far North - a boat carrying two men has been missing since last night.

A police spokesperson says the pontoon boat left Mill Bay at Mangonui yesterday afternoon with a 72-year-old and his 23-year-old son on board.

The pair were due back at 9pm yesterday and a Coastguard search was conducted along the coastline.

Police say the boat has no form of communication or flare kit and are unsure the men had life jackets on board.

A fixed wing aircraft and coastguard boats have been out searching since first light today.
