Tauranga man sentenced for brutal murder

By: Adam Walker | Upper North Island News | Friday July 27 2012 14:36

A Tauranga man has today been given a minimum term of 17 years in prison, for the brutal murder of his ex-partner's mother and attempted murder of his ex-partner.

Tamati Mason was sentenced to life in prison in the High Court at Rotorua.

Three years prior to the attack, Kate Brown had broken up with Mr Mason after a lengthy relationship.

The court heard Mr Mason broke into the home of Sandra Brown in February last year and stabbed her to death.

Ms Brown survived the attack and told the court of the pain and suffering she and her family had suffered.
