SH29 to reopen at Ruahihi Bluffs

By: Jacqui Stanford | Upper North Island News | Saturday August 18 2012 20:02

State Highway 29 has been reopened at Ruahihi Bluffs, west of Tauranga, after work to remove unstable rocks has been mostly completed.

The section of road will remain open to a single lane for the following week.

While clearing the road, geologists discovered a large free standing column of loose rock which will require blasting to remove and a plan will be put together during the coming week week for the blasting activity.

NZTA says it's disappointing the highway will have to be closed again, but the safety of road users is it top priority and it says this work does need to be undertaken.
