The Melbourne Cup's heading for Dargaville. The prize for the race that stops two nations is on tour, and it's made it to New Zealand. International relations manager for the Victoria Racing Club, Joe McGrath says they take applications from towns across Australia and New Zealand for a cup visit, and choose the best 25 or 30. "Dargaville put in a strong community-based submission. Submissions open up in February each year and Dargaville's was very strong." The cup will arrive in the Northland town on Friday and will be welcomed with a street parade. |
