Southland Aluminium Smelter spending programme halted

| Lower South Island News | Monday October 29 2012 15:11

A major spending programme at Southland's Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter has been stopped in its tracks.

New Zealand Aluminium Smelters says a $70 million programme of planned capital expenditure has been halted with immediate effect.

This follows a review of of all capital and major maintenance project expenditure.

NZAS general manager Ryan Cavanagh says they are losing money.

He says they are continuing to work with all of their key suppliers and stakeholders to reduce costs and grow revenues.
