KiwiRail will discuss the future of the storm-damaged railway line between Napier and Gisborne with Hawke's Bay Regional Council today. KiwiRail chief executive Jim Quinn will address the Regional Transport Committee and hear opinions from councillors on its future. He says people need to be kept updated and the organisation wants to understand the region's needs. "Making sure we understand the community opinions and needs because while our mandate is strictly to take a commercial view, it's important we put that in context of those other views." Mr Quinn says the final report on the railway line will be ready within two weeks. Photo: NZ Herald |
