Second recent death on Hutt Valley train line

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Lower North Island News | Wednesday August 1 2012 9:20

Police say they've been able to identify the man killed by a train in the Hutt Valley last night.

The man was struck near the Hutt River rail bridge by the southbound train at around 8pm.

He'd suffered extensive injuries and died at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Nick Pritchard says a forensic examination has allowed them to formally identify the man, who's aged in his mid to late thirties.

He says the victim's next of kin will now be notified and his name released later today.

The man in his late thirties.

Police are trying to identify who the man is.

He's described as Maori or Polynesian, approximately 175cm tall, of solid build with dreadlocks.

His death comes just a week after a 59-year-old man was struck and killed by a train at Wingate Station.

Both deaths have been referred to the Coroner.
