Man arrested in relation to serious assault

A Napier man has been arrested in relation to a serious assault in the city's Sunken Gardens six weeks ago.

A 54-year-old man was found by a member of the public late one night, with head injuries and broken ribs.

The 27-year-old will appear in the Napier District Court this afternoon, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police will be opposing bail.
