EFTPOS outage caused by leap day

| Lower North Island News | Wednesday February 29 2012 16:57

Leap day caused EFTPOS outages in a number of supermarkets across the lower North Island this morning.

A glitch in Foodstuffs systems meant some Pak 'N' Save, New World and Four Square customers could only make purchases with cash or credit cards.

General Manager of Foodstuffs, George Sutherland says the issue, that seemed to be caused by today's date, the 29th of February, was resolved shortly before midday.

A spokesman for one Wellington New World store doesn't think they lost much in sales, with most people going to nearby ATMs to get the cash.
