Power restored in lower North Island

Power has now been restored to more than 9000 properties in the lower North Island.

Severe winds have caused problems for the Powerco network over the past 48 hours.

Operations manager Phil Marsh says around 1000 properties around Taranaki, Wairarapa, Tararua and Manawatu are still without electricity.

He expects the majority to restore supply to most of those households by the end of the day.
