Police waiting on driver in serious condition

By: Sophie Lowery | Lower North Island News | Thursday August 16 2012 16:17

Police serious crash investigators are waiting to talk to the driver of a BMW that collided with a 17-tonne truck on the Hawke's Bay expressway.

A three-year-old boy is in a serious condition in hospital after he was thrown from the car yesterday.

The driver of the car remains in a serious condition and two other passengers have been discharged from hospital.

Sergeant Clint Adamson says police can't make any decision on pressing charges, until they find out why the driver made a U-turn on the expressway.

But he says several witnesses told police the car clearly crossed the path of the truck.
