The huge slip that's closed the Manawatu Gorge road for more than nine months could finally be cleared in the next few weeks.
Workers have been clearing slip material 24 hours a day for the past few weeks and the Transport Agency says the final truckloads of debris should be removed in a couple of weeks.
State Highways manager David McGonigal says engineers will then be able to assess damage to the road and bridges before deciding on the fastest and safest way of getting the road reopened.
It's currently estimated the road will reopen midyear.
