Panda's much anticipated first appearance at zoo

By: Nina Burton | Latest Hamilton News | Thursday February 2 2012 11:02

A red panda born in December at Hamilton Zoo will be seen for the first time by the public and Zoo staff.

Zoo Director Stephen Standley says since it's birth last year, it's been cared for in privacy by its parents Chito and Tayla.

He says it's the first of its species to be born at the Zoo.

Mr Standley says it was one of two babies, but sadly the other cub didn't survive.

He says they still don't know the gender of the surviving cub so it's still to be named.
