Police investigating five-month-old girl's death

By: Alexia Russell | Latest Hamilton News | Friday September 21 2012 12:50

Hamilton police are investigating the death of a five-month-old baby girl.

Ambulance staff called officers just before 5pm yesterday evening to an address in east Hamilton where they had been waved down to help.

The baby was rushed to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition and died around 11am this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene says police will thoroughly investigate the circumstances around the death but are supporting the family through the traumatic situation first and foremost.

He says the investigation is still in its early stages but interviews are being carried out and a scene examination is underway.

A post-mortem will be conducted in Auckland tomorrow morning.
