The Dunedin City Council is investigating after a glass roof panel shattered inside the Wall Street Mall. The incident happened around 11am yesterday morning, when a 2m long panel of safety glass in the roof exploded, with fragments falling two floors to the public atrium below. Two people were covered in shards of glass, while a display car was dented and had its back window broken. The city council, who developed the building back in 2009, says it's concerned people were hit by fallen debris but the safety glass had acted as designed by shattering and preventing injury. Glass specialists are due to check the roof this morning before the mall is opened. Photo: NZ Herald |
