O Week kicks off in Dunedin

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Dunedin News | Tuesday February 21 2012 11:39

A busy night for Dunedin police following day one of Otago University's Orientation Week.

Eight arrests were made, with offences including shoplifting, breach of the liquor ban, disorderly behaviour, assault and resisting arrest.

Senior Sergeant Craig Brown says people generally behaved themselves at a 'hypnotism show' at Forsyth Barr Stadium before things began to unravel.

He says they attended five fires in Castle Street and arrested one man for running naked down the road, firing fireworks at people.

Senior Sergeant Brown says thankfully there are only six more nights of O Week left and they have plenty of extra staff on to help.
