East Coast Rugby player with serious injuries after assault

By: Joe Gilfillan | Latest Christchurch News | Sunday September 2 2012 19:43

Timaru police are keen to hear from witnesses to an assault outside a Timaru nightclub around 3am.

The 23 year-old victim was a member of the East Coast rugby team in town to play South Canterbury yesterday.

So serious is the injury to his mouth he has today been transferred from the hospital in Timaru to Christchurch Hospital.

Police already have CCTV footage showing the assault, but they would like to hear from anyone in the large crowd there who saw what happened.
