Lyttelton Port in Christchurch will have to reject the majority of cruise ships bookings until at least 2015. The company has announced today it will only be able to cater for small vessels for the 2013-2014 season. The port is currently reviewing its development plans for new berth facilities needed since the earthquakes. Chief executive Peter Davie says given the complex nature and limited timeframe, it will be challenging to meet the opening of next year's season. Before the quakes, the port hosted 50 cruise ships in 2009-2010, with over 100,000 passengers and crew arriving during the season. Photo: NZ Herald |
