Injunction granted to stop Christ Church Cathedral deconstruction

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Christchurch News | Thursday November 15 2012 16:39

A High Court judge has granted an injunction to stop the deconstruction of Christ Church Cathedral.

The long-running battle over the earthquake-shattered icon went to the High Court in a last ditch attempt by the Great Christchurch Buildings Trust to save it.

A report issued today by the Courts says the judicial review has been granted on what remains of the Cathedral.

The Judge has not set a timeframe and says while the trust requires there to be a building on the site - it doesn't necessarily have to replicate what was there before the quakes.

There has been no consideration of cost until a final decision is issued by the court.
