Housing New Zealand is on track to have hundreds of new homes available for quake affected tenants in Christchurch. The corporation wants to have repairs done to 212 severely damaged homes across Christchurch done in around two weeks time. It has 74 left to do by the end of the month. Housing Minister Phil Heatley says as well as those repairs, up to 350 new houses should be ready for occupancy. "In the next 18-months we're proposing about 200-350 across Christchurch built in that period and that's on small developments where we're turning two or three sections into six or seven." Mr Heatley says tenants will have a choice whether they go back to the same suburb, or somewhere different. |
