Mother claims discrimination at Chch hospital

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Christchurch News | Wednesday August 29 2012 13:36

A Canterbury mother is questioning why the Christchurch Hospital doesn't provide regular meals for mothers who bottle feed their babies.

Claire Sword has been in-and-out of the hospital with her young son, who was born with a heart defect and also contracted viral meningitis in his first months of life.

She says because she was bottle feeding Lleyton, the hospital wouldn't give her any meals, apart from a piece of toast for breakfast.

The mother of two says just because a mother can't breast-feed doesn't mean they should be treated any differently.

"It's a bit of discrimination really because at the end of the day you've got to feed your baby and you need to be fed as well."
