Red zone land offers about to expire

By: Jacob Brown | Latest Christchurch News | Tuesday April 10 2012 5:13

With land purchase offers about to expire for some of Christchurch's red zoners residents, there are concerns for those who are still waiting to hear back from their insurance companies.

Red zoners are given nine months to reach a decision once CERA makes an offer, with the expiry date for the first lot of offers next month.

CANCERN spokeswoman Leanne Curtis says the government needs to step in and extend the timeframe being given to red zoners who are still looking at all options.

She says many are being left in an awkward position.

"Some of those red zone people don't yet have an offer from their insurer. They don't know whether it's best option for them to take option one or option two because they've been held up again by this very confusing insurance process."

Mr Curtis says they're keeping in touch with insurers and meeting with EQC to look at how they can speed up and simplify the process.
