Brownlee fast-tracks Chch temporary accommodation

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Christchurch News | Wednesday September 26 2012 9:46

The Earthquake Recovery Minister has used his special powers to fast track temporary accommodation for workers heading to Christchurch.

Gerry Brownlee has used Section 27 of the CERA Act to streamline the Resource Management Act and Building Act consenting process.

The changes to the Christchurch City Plan and district plans for Banks Peninsula, Waimakariri and Selwyn regions will speed up and simplify the development of worker accommodation.

Gerry Brownlee says 30-thousand short-term workers are needed for the rebuild.

He says the changes will allow temporary building for up to 200 people in the central city, and up to 20 people in some residential and commercial zone areas.
