The ability of authorities to demolish Christchurch's heritage buildings without question will be put to the test tonight. The meetings primarily in response to the threat the central city blueprint puts on historic buildings. Historic Places Canterbury vice chairman Ross Gray says it highlights the huge power held by those in charge. "It seems still that CERA has not developed a heritage policy, which seems rather unfortunate given that there's been 16 months of destruction of heritage buildings which have been a key part of the city for over 130 years." Ross Gray says unfortunately there won't be a CERA representative at the meeting. Photo: NZ Herald |
