Councillors vote to pause Cathedral deconstruction

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Christchurch News | Thursday May 17 2012 15:44

Christchurch City Councillors have voted in favour of pausing deconstruction work on the city's Cathedral.

Members of the Restore Cathedral group gave a presentation at a Council meeting this morning, urging the leaders to consider their cause.

Spokesman Mark Belton says there's no reason why the Cathedral cannot be saved.

Following discussion in council chambers today, the city's elected representatives have voted in 10-4 in favour of calling for a pause on deconstruction of the building.

The Restore ChristChurch Cathedral Group will reveal further campaign plans at an event in the city tonight.
