Chairs stolen from Chch central city tribute

| Latest Christchurch News | Tuesday May 22 2012 7:46

The artist who created a central city tribute to those lost in the February earthquake is philosophical about the theft of part of his exhibit.

Peter Majendie created 185 Empty Chairs, on the site of what was once the Oxford Terrace Baptist church, as part of the February 22 commemorations.

But two of the chairs have now been stolen.

"There's only the two gone. The wheelchair went about, I think about three weeks ago, and a big cane chair went last weekend but I think in three months, pretty good I think."

Mr Majendie says none of the chairs are tethered and he'll simply replace the missing ones.
