Australian Govt revises Chch travel warning

By: Katie Bradford-Crozier | Latest Christchurch News | Wednesday August 15 2012 17:49

The Australian Government has revised its travel warning for Christchurch and Lyttelton, removing a reference to the need to exercise a high degree of caution.

The website now advises tourists to "exercise normal safety precautions" in the area, the same as the rest of the country.

Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says it's great news because getting tourism back on its feet is incredibly important for the rebuild and recovery of the wider Canterbury region.

"There'd be a lot of Australians who have come into Christchurch despite those warnings and I'm sure that the anecdotal evidence going back is that Christchurch is in pretty good shape and still a great place to visit."
