CTV: Coroner's Inquest a positive step

By: Newstalk ZB staff | Latest Christchurch News | Friday August 17 2012 15:29

A more focused look into the loss of life in the CTV building is a step in the right direction according to one of the country's top legal counsel.

The Coroners Inquest will reconvene in October to look at all 115 deaths in the CTV building.

It will focus on the deaths of six people known to have survived the collapse but were unable to be rescued.

Nigel Hampton QC, whose client's wife is one of the six victims, says it's a positive step forward.

"The coroner's going to have some expert advice available to him from a U.S expert which is a bit unusual. I hear the coroner's also going to have council assisting which again is a bit unusual, so they're all steps in the right direction from our point of view."
