Snow and ice closes schools and highways (June 8) - full list


A number of schools and highways are closing due to ice from the snowfall in the South Island this week - see the full list here

Schools (Christchurch)

  • Avonhead School - Opening at 10am with lessons starting at 10.30

  • Canterbury Kidsfirst Kindergartens have delayed their opening until at least 11am.

  • Central New Brighton School - Delayed opening at 11am

  • Christchurch South Intermediate School - delayed opening until 11am, update at 9:30am

  • Heaton Normal Intermediate will start at 10.30 - Check their website for further updates

  • Hillview Christian School will start at 10.30

  • Linwood College is open at 10.30 - Students to wear uniform, normal friday classes with shortened periods

  • Middleton Grange school is opening at 10

  • Oaklands Primary School - delayed opening until 10:30am

  • Riccarton High is opening at 11

  • Sacred Heart school in Addington - 10.30 Start

  • Shirley Intermediate - Delayed opening at 11

  • Sockburn School is opening at 11

  • University of Canterbury will re-open at 8am

  • Ashgrove school in Rangiora is opening at 11am, Parents welcome earlier if they want to head along with a shovel to help clear snow

  • Burnham School opening at 10.30

  • Cheviot area school is opening at 9.45

  • Hurunui college is closed today

  • Oxford Area school closed today

  • Templeton School is closed

  • West Eyreton school is Closed
