3.9 quake hits Christchurch

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake has been felt in Canterbury tonight.

It was recorded at 9:26pm, 10km east of Kaiapoi, at a depth of five kilometres.

Earlier quakes in the area today were at 12:06pm, measuring three, and at 11:07am, recorded at four on the Richter scale.

Both were 10 km southwest of Christchurch.
