Fletchers deny shortage of work in Canterbury

By: Annette Lunn | Latest Christchurch News | Thursday June 21 2012 9:59

Fletchers Earthquake Recovery is denying there's a shortage of work in Canterbury.

There have been claims workers are flooding out of the region for Australia, out of frustration at a lack of work and continuing delays to the city's reconstruction.

Fletchers EQR residential general manager David Petersen paints a different picture.

"We're going faster we're completing a hundred homes every day we need to keep that rate increasing for the duration of our programme to get it done."

David Petersen says their indications show there could be a shortage of workers by the start of spring.

Fletcher Commercial spokesman Aaron Muir echoes this, saying there may be anecdotal stories for small numbers of workers leaving - but not to an extent which is causing concern.
